OMG how cool does this look

I’m totally going to try this

I’m still trying to get to grips with the great British sewing bees walkaway dress, but find the sizing strange

Now I know these are finished sizes but my bust is 40in so going by the sizes I should make a 10/12!! I ain’t no 10/12 I’m normally a size 16? So how have they come up with these sizes and it’s such a lot of fabric it would be such a waste to make it up and it didn’t fit.
but back in the day they certainly knew how to make simple stylish clothes

Not the weekend I planned!

I planned a weekend of sewing lovely summer clothes, sorting my stash and watching Netflix TV series one after another, well I did that obviously 😆

But instead I was so tired on Saturday morning that I just vegged on the settee watching rubbish, eating rubbish! Ive been finding my day job is getting tougher and tougher with being in so much demand and running around after children, it maybe time to go to a 4 day week! Just think 3 days of sewing a week!!! Ooooo how magic would that be 😮

So on Saturday afternoon I realised it was my mothers birthday the next day! And I hadn’t made her a present, or bought her anything, so I picked up a piece of paper piece patchwork I’d been working on for 2 weeks and turned it into a bag, not a very good one though!

She’s seemed to like it, although I messed up the bottom and made the straps to thick! How easy is it to criticise ourselves but when others post on Facebook something rubbish, you’ll totally be like “wow that’s lovely” one day I’m going totally like “OMG that’s totally rubbish love” , of course I won’t! That would be rude, but I can easily do it to my own work… “God love that’s a rubbish bag, I hope you gave your poor mum something other than that!” …Yeah of course I did.

So after taking my mum out on Sunday for lunch I came back to watch my beloved Arsenal and sorted out the fabric/dress patterns I’m doing this week.  This is what I’m thinking, the sew la do da blitz dress in this lovely cotton, I already have one and it is totally lush and I can’t recommend enough for this summer, it’s so comfy and cool.

And the McCall M6503 in a lovely Liberty print cotton lawn

Hopefully I’ll have them completed before the weekend as its a bank holiday weekend and Pimms o clock will be in effect, so a new summer dress will be needed, cheers 🍸

Long time no blog

Im such a naughty blogger, I have been AWOL for such a long time and so much has happened.

First of all my local sewing group held a “sewing bee challenge for Comic relief’ where we literally did a sewing bee challenge. We were given our pattern and  a selection of notions to make a doll in 2 hours. it was a tough one and even though I won 3rd prize I made some pretty silly mistakes, I put the legs on the wrong way around and didn’t make shoes, which was a prerequisite. But it was loads of fun and I coped well even though I did have my scatty moments.

Me and my sister went up to the NEC to the sewing for pleasure show, it was brilliant and I again spent bit too much than I should of. We saw some amazing costumes from Mr Selfridge and lovely designed clothes as well, real inspirational stuff.

And lastly I had a 50th Birthday party and I really couldn’t decide what to make, it was one of those things too much selection of fabric and patterns. So I took to the internet and asked for help. My friends on Facebook sorted out my choices of fabric with which pattern. But then I couldn’t decide which one to make…. so I made both! 2 dresses in 2 days is a record for me and I really impressed myself.

As you can see I wore the red polkadot swing dress, its more my style, but Im going to have to find somewhere to wear my wiggle dress now, shame that 🙂

Well i would promise to blog more, but I have a masters essay coming up and I don’t know if I can keep that promise, but I am sewing this weekend and will post my makes on Monday. I hope to start drafting my own patterns soon, but again its the time thing, if only I had more time, oh well,

until next time, Happy scatty sewing xx
